Sega Joypolis Review

Finally, our first theme park of the trip!

After we found a tool in the middle of nowhere (aka Akihabara) that would help get our iPhones up and running Japan, we had some time left over on our first day in Japan to head on over to Tokyo Bay where we would visit the awesome Sega Joypolis, which had the brand new Veil of Dark – a spinning, inverting, shoot ’em up coaster.

What better way to top off an awesome night than with some Sega Joypolis?

During the day you can come in here and pat oodles of kitties!

But seriously, screw the kitties, we're here for our first theme park visit for our trip!

There was also a Legoland center here! We didn't go in, but we got laughed at for posing with the sign. Gaijins doing what gaijins do best.

Awwww yeah.

The entire complex is filled with crazy signs and interactive displays.

Our first look at Veil of Dark. Unfortunately at this point my GoPro pretty much died. I got around half of the POV of all the onboard craziness (the restraints have a joystick and a fire trigger where you shoot at screens while riding the ride! I shit you not.) but it was not meant to be.

Some of the attractions on the upper floors were superb. Shell absolutely shat bricks in one of the attractions where you wear headphones and the dolls come to life!

All these simulators had the choice between Japanese & English audio, and boy oh boy was the English audio bad.

The whole place looked fabulous, as to be expected.

Wild Wings! One of the best rides of the trip, purely because of the horrible english dubs! "No worry, I had ten cups of coffee already! No worry!"

So this sucked. Totally wasted time better spent riding coasters instead of touching stones and typing my name into crappy touch screens.

Another crazy awesome Sega ride! You basically swing from side to side and try and manouvre the board to spin to get a high score while crazy loud audio and bright screens belt out tunes and visuals.

So this was just awesome. The first half of the ride (where you shoot at screens and villains using a joystick ON THE RESTRAINT MID RIDE!) would have been awesome just by itself, but then you LAUNCH over the main foyer, barrel roll, and do a complete, and very tight ride section, all while spinning!

Time to go outside and get some air!

Let's bail. Thanks Joypolis for a super awesome finish to the day!

We were walking back to the station and saw this. What the hell is this middle bit for?

While Shell was walking up the ramp, we found out why that was there VERY quickly. Apparently bicyclists use this at tremendous speed to get up and down to the station! Crazy!
